Enbridge looking at new pipeline

Enbridge Inc., owner of a 600-mile-long oil pipeline that runs near Concordia, is proposing the construction of a new pipeline that will start in Flanagan, Ill., and end in Cushing, Okla. The proposed 600-mile pipeline -- Flanagan South Pipeline -- would run parallel with the Spearhead Pipeline System and mostly stay within the boundaries of current right-of-way agreements. ...

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers help escort a tractor-trailer hauling a large stainless tank through Concordia Monday morning. The tank was being shipped from Paul Mueller Company in Springfield to an out-of-state location. By state law, loads that exceed 150,000 pounds and are 16 feet or taller are classified as "super loads" and require police escorts in addition to the standard procedures for "over-sized loads."...
2011 snowfall totals nearly double annual average

Concordia's weather in 2011 included near record snowfall early in the year, abundant precipitation during the spring and summer, and an unusually dry fall harvest season, followed by unusually wet weather in the last two months of the year. The year's snowfall totaled 40. 6 inches, the most since 1960 when 58.5 inches was recorded, according to local National Weather Service records dating back to 1959...

Patrons of Trails Regional Library-Concordia Branch enjoy soup, desserts and conversation last Friday during a fundraising event at the library. The soup lunch raised $130 from free-will donations. The proceeds will go toward new computer chairs.
Fire destroys Blackburn home

Smoke alarms were credited with helping a Blackburn family escape a fire in their home without injury early Thursday, Jan. 26. Bill Kellerman, Blackburn station fire chief with West-Central Fire Protection District, said the fire began in the attic and appeared to have been caused by an electrical problem. The fire burned through the attic floor and dropped hot ash into a bedroom, he said...
County road project moves forward

The Lafayette County Commission is moving forward with a project to move a section of county road near Lexington. The half-mile section of road on Halls Station Road east of Lexington has four 90 degree turns the commission would like to eliminate. The north-to-south road is fairly straight with the exception of the sharp bends to the east. The commissioners decided it would be easiest to remove the sections in question and make a straight connection at the first and last turns...
Area band takes shape

After months of garnering support and finding volunteer musicians, an instrumental music ensemble has been formed in Lexington, according to Executive Director Jacob Lamb. The ensemble will be a band called the Lexington Symphonic Band. Lamb said his original goal was to form an orchestra, but more woodwind, brass and percussion players volunteered than stringed-instrument players...

Roger W. Mason, age 84, passed away Jan. 20, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Mo.
