Iona Hemme, 72, of Concordia died Nov. 23, 2009, at the Lutheran Nursing Home at Concordia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel United Church of Christ at Concordia with the Rev. Dr. Alan Gatewood officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Hemme was born on Aug. 7, 1937, at Sedalia. She was the daughter of Harmon W. and Sadie Hannah Stanton Hays. She lived in Concordia most of her life. She was employed by the Lutheran Good Shepherd Home for 34 years, working as a nurse aid and CMT. She was a founding member of the Concordia Girl Scouts. She was a member of Bethel church where she served as a Sunday School teacher.
Mrs. Hemme is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wendell (Teresa) Bredehoft of Concordia and Mrs. Michael (Kathy) Boehmer of Olathe, Kan.; one brother, Curtis Kirchhoff of Sweet Springs; two sisters, Judy Inlow of Concordia and Joyce Nierman of Lone Jack; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
In addition to her parents and stepfather, Raymond Kirchhoff, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Kirchhoff.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the church, the Good Shepherd Home or to the American Diabetes Association.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
