Lady 'Hounds shut out Smithton
Kathleen Tyler and Kaitlyn Fuehring combined to pitch a no-hitter and the Sweet Springs offense had only three hits in a 15-0 victory last Wednesday in Sweet Springs.
The Lady Greyhounds scored all of the runs they needed in the first two frames. The game ended after three innings due to the 15-run rule.
Sweet Springs sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 10 first-inning runs. The Lady Greyhounds batted around again in the second inning, plating five tallies.
Ashlyn Schlatweiler had a triple and Kristin Jones and Ashley delRosario added a single apiece for SSHS.
Niki Hall scored three runs, Brittany Higgins, Schlatweiler and Jones two apiece and Taylor Loges, delRosario, Kim Rennison, Mikalah Vogels-meier, Lauren Fuehring and Shelby Hayworth one apiece. Kathleen Tyler drove in three runs, Higgins two and Loges, Jones, Vogelsmeier and Hayworth one apiece. The Lady 'Hounds received 12 walks.
"We stayed focused even though there were a lot of walks," SSHS head coach Kristen Niemeyer said.
Kathleen Tyler hurled the first two innings, allowing one walk and striking out three. Kaitlyn Fuehring struck out two in the third inning.
The Lady 'Hounds, 2-0, host Leeton this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. They host Santa Fe Monday and Saint Paul next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
