Orioles polish off Wellington, Northwest

Carter Brown and Alic Frerking combined in a shutout performance in a 4-0 Concordia baseball victory over visiting Wellington last week Tuesday. In a much different game, the Orioles whacked visiting Northwest 16-3 Thursday.

A two-run first inning was all the Orioles needed. But they added two more runs in the fifth for insurance.

Drew Smith singled, stole second and scored on an error on a ball hit by Tyler Tolias in the first inning. Carter Brown followed with a run-scoring single.

Collin Werths opened the fifth with a single, stole second and Smith and Tolias followed with back-to-back RBI doubles.

Carter Brown hurled the first five innings, allowing five hits and a walk and fanning 10, the side in the third and two in the first, second and fifth frames. Frerking struck out three and allowed one hit in earning the save.

Smith had a single and a double and Carter Brown, J. R. Langkrahr and Werths two singles apiece. Tolias and Hayden Brown each added a single to the 10-hit attack.

After a slow start, the the Orioles' offense exploded.

CHS scored three runs in the second inning and 13 in the third inning. The Mustangs plated one in the third and two in the fifth of the five-inning game, stopped via the 10-run rule.

Langkrahr singled and Jacob Harms and Werths each had a double, Harms getting two RBIs and Werths one in the second inning.

Six singles, two doubles, two triples and a home run were the big hits for CHS in the third inning, one in which the Orioles sent 18 batters to the plate.

Tolias and Cale Brunkhorst each singled and doubled, Hayden Brown and Werths each singled and tripled, Langkrahr hit a home run and Smith and Frerking each had a single.

Overall, the Orioles had 16 hits, including four doubles, two triples and one homer.

Werths had a single, double and triple to lead the way. Hayden Brown singled and tripled. Tolias singled and doubled, Harms doubled and Smith and Kent Schuette each singled.

Carter Brown, Brunkhorst, Zach Wolski, Langkrahr and Chris Latty each scored two runs and Smith, Tolias, Hayden Brown, Frerking, Blake Heimsoth and Werths each scored once. Werths had four RBIs, Brunkhorst three, Langkrahr and Harms two each and Smith, Tolias, Hayden Brown and Frerking one apiece.

Harms tossed a complete game, allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks and struck out six.
