Richard E. Leonard, 74, of Higginsville, died on April 29, 2010, at his home. Funeral services were held Monday at church of Christ in Higginsville, with the Evangelist Steve Thayer officiating. Burial was in Higginsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Leonard was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Clarksburg. He was the son of Frank Cecil and Sarah Sappington Leonard.

He worked at Leahy Manufacturing in Higginsville until its closing and then worked as a newspaper carrier for The Kansas City Star, retiring in 1999. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1957. He moved to Higginsville in 1968 from Texas and was a member of church of Christ in Concordia. He married Doris N. Hooper White on March 31, 1962.

Mr. Leonard is survived by two sons, Jerry Leonard and Terry Leonard of Higginsville; two stepsons, Martin White of Kansas City and Rickey White of Mayview; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 26, 1993; and one sister, Patricia Toler.

The pallbearers were Mr. Leonard's grandsons.

The family suggests memorials may be made to family choice.
