LaCoMo East survives to play in title contest
LaCoMo East's Junior League baseball all-star team was still alive as of Tuesday night. That's when the local team was supposed to play Hillsboro for the state championship in Concordia. It is a game that was postponed because of wet ground Monday night. The result was not available at press time.
The winner advances to the Regional Tournament at Fort Wayne, Ind., Aug. 7-12.
LaCoMo East lost its first game 13-3 to Hillsboro Saturday but rebounded to beat Daniel Boone 11-4 in a rain-shortened game Saturday and edged Hillsboro 3-2 Sunday.

Getting a stellar pitching performance from Austin Beydler, LaCoMo East remained alive in the state tournament with a 3-2 victory over Hillsboro, which just a day before had beaten LaCoMo East 13-3.
Hillsboro jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
LaCoMo East battled back to score two in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Isaiah Roepe.
Hillsboro rebounded to tie the game with a run in the second.
LaCoMo East's Wyatt Wil-kinson reached base and eventually scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Cass Heimsoth in the third.
Beydler hurled through the sixth inning before giving way to Trent McGinnis for the seventh.
McGinnis allowed a hit but retired three Hillsboro batters on strikes, including the final strikeout with the runner on third base via a stolen base and a wild pitch.
Wilkinson, Hon, Heimsoth, Cory Meineka and Roepe each had a base hit.
Beydler allowed two runs on three hits and one walk and struck out two, earning the win.
LaCoMo East 11, Daniel Boone 4
Daniel Boone jumped on starter Hon for three runs in the first inning, but LaCoMo East rebounded with two runs in the second inning and four in the third to grab the lead for good. After Daniel Boone scored one in the fourth, LaCoMo East finished off the scoring with five in the fifth. The game was halted and eventually called with two outs in the top of the sixth because of lightning and torrential rain.
Heimsoth led the 10-hit attack for LaCoMo East with two doubles. Meineka whacked a single and a double and Hon two singles. Truman Sleeper added a double and Wilkinson, Isaiah Roepe and Grant Boland a single apiece. Meineka scored three runs, Dillon Cusano two and Wilkinson, Roepe and Sleeper one each. Hon had two RBIs and Heimsoth and Sleeper one apiece.
Hon wound up going the distance, allowing four runs on three hits and one walk while fanning three.
Hillsboro 13, LaCoMo East 3
It was a rough beginning to the tournament for LaCoMo East, falling behind 3-0 through two innings and 5-1 through three. Hillsboro, which led 7-3 going to the bottom of the sixth, ended the game via the 10-run rule by scoring six runs in the sixth frame.
Heimsoth paced the hitting attack for LaCoMo East with three base hits. Meineka had a single and a double and Roepe two singles. Hon smacked a double and Wilkinson and Boland a single each. Hon and Meineka each scored one run and Heimsoth drove in two runs.
Heimsoth, who suffered the loss, hurled the first 3 2/3 frames, allowing seven runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six. Sleeper pitched the next 1 1/3 innings, surrendering two runs on one hit and two walks and struck out one. Meineka worked one inning, giving up four runs on two hits and four free passes.
