Majority of grid first-teamers gone
With the opening of the 2010 high school football season on the horizon, it is important to look back and see who each team might have available from last year's all-conference selections. The majority of the first-team selections are gone, lost to graduation. But several players have eligibility remaining.
The Concordia Orioles had four senior players earn first-team status, including Travis Small on the offensive and defensive lines. Cody Knight was a pick for the offensive line, J. R. Langkrahr on the defensive line and Cory Small at linebacker.
The only member of the first team as a senior for the Saint Paul Saints was Tyler Mattlin at receiver on offense.
Zach Thomas was the only senior selected from the Sweet Springs Greyhounds as a linebacker on defense.
Orrick loses four players with first-team status from last year, including Kalija Rogers at running back and linebacker. Ty Griffin was an offensive-line selection, Cam Griffin on the defensive line and Aaron Blyth at defensive back.
Wellington loses four players, too, but they filled six positions on the first team, including Spenser Ward on the offensive and defensive line and Cody Willard at kicker and linebacker. Caleb Kropp was the first-team quarterback, and Cody Banner a first-team running back.
Five different players return with first-team honors from last year.
Concordia has Alic Frerking, who was a first-team pick at defensive back, returning.
Orrick returns Logan Eu-bank, who was a first-team running back last year, and Cam McGlothlin, who was a first-team pick on the offensive and defensive lines and punter.
Blake Seitz, a first-team selection at receiver and defensive back, and first-team receiver Dylon Register return for Wellington.
Six offensive and five defensive second-team picks were seniors, while seven offensive and four defensive selections were seniors on the honorable-mention lists.
