"It is a tough challenge to open the season with a team that has as much talent as Mid-Buchanan," Orrick head coach Pat Richard said. "Our play up front improved throughout the game."
The Bearcats, who had their 40-game winning streak broken in the sectional round of the Class 1 state playoffs last year by eventual champion Penney of Hamilton, led only 16-13 at the half and then exploded in the third quarter for a 38-21 advantage.
Eubank, who accounted for 397 yards of total offense, had TD runs of 47, 5 and 80 yards and scoring strikes to Turner Twyman of 33 and 9 yards.
"I was proud of the way he made good reads in the passing game," Richard said.
The Bearcats, who accumulated 499 yards rushing, including 105 yards and a 9-yard touchdown run by Marcus McClellan, and 541 yards of total offense, allowed 238 yards passing and 321 yards of total offense to Mid-Buchanan.
"Marcus McClellan ran the ball well in his first game as a starter," Richard said.
"We have to improve our pass-rush technique and pass coverage,' Richard said. "Their quarterback did a nice job of scrambling and making things happen."
A team never plays a perfect game.
"We had a tough time with mental errors and penalties on offense," Richard said.
Eubank's 355 yards rushing was a personal high but not a school record, which is owned by Austin Jones.
The Bearcats, 1-0, host Saint Paul, a 10-0 winner over Lone Jack in an I-70 Conference game Friday night at 7. The Bearcats will put their 28-game conference winning streak on the line.
