Two weeks down, one to go in district play

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Four teams in districts involving I-70 Conference schools have 2-0 records and look like they are headed to the state playoffs that start next Wednesday.

Still, anything can happen in many districts with one game remaining.

Sitting in the catbird's seat are Concordia, 2-0 in Class 1, District 6, University Academy, 2-0 in Class 1, District 8, Wellington, 2-0 in Class 1, District 13, and Higginsville, 2-0 in Class 2, District 14.

Santa Fe, despite its 68-0 loss to the Orioles Friday, would seem to still have the inside track to make it as the second team in District 6. The 1-1 Chiefs tangle with winless Sweet Springs, while 1-1 Crest Ridge has the unenviable task of trying to derail the Orioles.

District 8 is still available to be taken, with the 2-0 UAC Gryphons traveling to 1-1 Cass-Midway and 1-1 Drexel going to 0-2 Lone Jack.

Orrick's prospects look decent for making it to the playoffs for the fifth straight year as the 1-1 Bearcats host 0-2 Wentworth. St. Mary's, 1-1, still has a shot if it can knock off the 2-0 Tigers.

Saint Paul, 0-2, has been reduced to playing for pride in its game at the 2-0 Huskers. The winner of the 1-1 Knob Noster at 1-1 Carrollton will be the district's other state playoff team.

All six games in Class 1, District 6, Class 1, District 13 and Class 2, District 14 will be played Thursday night at 7. The games in Class 1, District 8 are scheduled for Friday night at 7.
