Cole Camp sweeps Cougars
It was not a fruitful night last week Monday for the Crest Ridge basketball teams, as the Lady Cougars fell to Cole Camp 43-37 and Cole Camp knocked off the Cougars 57-51 at the State Fair Community College Shootout in Sedalia.
The Lady Cougars grabbed a 10-5 lead after one quarter, but Cole Camp took control with a 26-14 run through the middle two quarters.
"We played good first and fourth quarters, but we didn't play a complete game," CRHS head coach Katie Woolsey said.
Mel Branscum paced the Lady Cougars, 4-3, with eight points, including two three-pointers, four rebounds and three steals. Allison Wagoner also had eight points and four rebounds.
Heath Heckadon's Cougars trailed at the end of every quarter, but the game always was close.
Cole Camp held leads of 14-11, 25-23 and 40-35 at the quarter breaks.
The Blue Birds had a hard time stopping the one-two offensive punch of Jordan Erisman and Alex Everhart. Erisman poured in 29 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while Everhart contributed 16 points, 11 boards and five blocked shots.
"This was one of our better defensive efforts," Heckadon said. "We just gave up too many offensive rebounds."
In other action, the Orrick Lady Bearcats, 5-1, had 21 points from Amanda Rodenberg and squashed visiting West Platte 54-13. Kristee Harris and Madison Winters each added six points.
West Platte won the boys' game 48-27.
The Bearcats, playing without leading scorer and rebounder Cameron McGlothlin, failed to score in the third quarter.
Jordyn Butler led the Bearcats, 2-4, with eight points. Larry Blair and Ray Brooks each scored six points.
