Homer A. Steffens, 80, of Higginsville died Jan. 11, 2011, at Meyer Care Center at Higginsville. Funeral services were held Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Higginsville with the Rev. Marcus Jauss officiating. Burial was in Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Higginsville.

Mr. Steffens was born on Sept. 21, 1930, at Corder. He was the son of Adolph William and Marie Carolina Nienhueser Steffens. He married Maxine E. Covey on Aug. 31, 1952. He was a 1949 graduate of Corder High School. He was a Higginsville resident most of his life. He was a self-employed carpenter, retiring in 1995. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of corporal. He was a former member of Higginsville Jaycees and a member of Immanuel church where he sang in the choir and held various offices.

Mr. Steffens is survived by a son, Duane Homer Steffens of Grain Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Debra Kay) Grabb of Camden Point and Donna Jane Reid of Brookings, S.D.; two sisters, Viola Krause of Independence and Gertrude Porterfield of Overland Park, Kan.; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 2, 2008; three brothers, Robert Steffens, Ralph Steffens and Harvey Steffens; four sisters, Elverna Mahnken, Irene Hickman, Mary Jane Reider and Venita Steffens.

The pallbearers were Mike Reider, Tim Reider, Devon Dodson, Larry Meinershagen, Scott Meinershagen and David Stout.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the church memorial fund.
