Dorothy Summers, 93, of Concordia and formerly of Alma, died Feb. 10, 2011, at the Lutheran Nursing Home in Concordia. Funeral services were held Tuesday at First Baptist Church at Higginsville with Dr. Greg Fine officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery at Corder.

Mrs. Summers was born on Dec. 6, 1917, at Council Grove, Kan. She was the daughter of Ray and Hazel Shaw Tatom. She married Clarence "Bud" Summers on March 20, 1943. She was a resident of Alma most of her life, moving to Concordia in 2007. She was a 1936 graduate of Higginsville High School. She was the first female elected presiding judge in Lafayette County, serving from 1977 to 1988. She was a member of the Elk Grove Club, Pi Chi Sorority of Alma and Southwest Baptist Alumni Group; and a former member of the Missouri Judicial Association. She was a member of the church.

Mrs. Summers is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Janell) Engelhardt of Overland Park, Kan.; a brother, Jerry Tatom of Santa Fe, N.M.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 2, 1977; three brothers, Spencer Tatom, the Rev. Bill Tatom and James Tatom; and a sister, Mildred Bracken.

The pallbearers were B.J. Engelhardt, Dwaine Edwards, Donald Gieseke, Steve Tatom, Ronnie Summers and Michael Tatom. The honorary pallbearers were Ross Pritchard, Bob Pritchard, Bob Washburn, Hubert Alewel, Joe Rolf and Dunk Korzan.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the church building fund or the Lutheran Nursing Home.
