From foes to friends

Once adversaries on the gridiron, Concordia High School graduate JR Langkrahr (left) and Sweet Springs High School grad Zach Thomas are now teammates on the Missouri Valley College football team at Marshall, which has qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Championship Series.

Both of the former I-70 Conference stalwarts contribute on defense as linemen for the Vikings, who tied for the Heart of America Athletic Conference championship with MidAmerica Nazarene University of Olathe, Kan.

Two weeks ago, Thomas was voted the HAAC's special-team's player of the week for his play versus Evangel of Springfield. He caused a fumble that led to a Valley touchdown and had two tackles in the 52-24 victory.

The Vikings, 9-1 and ranked No. 7 in the final regular-season poll, host ninth-ranked St. Francis (Ind.), 8-2, in the first round of the playoffs Saturday at noon on Gregg-Mitchell Field in Marshall.
