The accident occurred when a 2004 silver Dodge Dakota pulling a trailer jackknifed, causing the pickup truck to overturn, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report. The vehicle was traveling southbound on highway 23 and came to rest on the west side of the roadway facing northeast.
Shelly M. Albercht, 45, was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. She sustained serious injuries and was taken to Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington, the report said.
A passenger, Timothy L. Boothe, 45, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lafayette Regional Health Center. Albercht was wearing a safety device, while Boothe was not, according to the report.
The Alma Fire Protection District and Concordia Fire Protection District responded to the accident.
Traffic on highway 23 moved slowly as emergency crews directed motorist through the accident scene.
An investigation continues with charges pending.
