Crash injures Sweet Springs man

Concordia first responders render aid to Jason E. Welch, 33, of Sweet Springs, who suffered injuries when his minivan was rear-ended on Interstate 70 Monday.

A Sweet Springs man suffered moderate injuries Monday when his vehicle was rear-ended on Interstate 70 near Concordia.

According to a preliminary report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Jason E. Welch was eastbound in a 2005 Dodge minivan when he was struck from behind by a 2004 Dodge truck driven by 39-year-old Roy D. Dodson of Independence.

The collision occurred just after 3 p.m. at the 56.2-mile marker.

Both men were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident and only Welch was injured.

Concordia firefighters and emergency medical services responded and transported Welch to I-70 Community Hospital in Sweet Springs.

No citations were issued at the scene, but the report notes the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
