Peters competes at state
Saint Paul junior Nolan Pe-ters had two chances to get into the finals of hurdle races at the Class 2 State Track and Field Meet in Jefferson City Friday. But he missed out on making the finals, finishing 13th in the 100-meter hurdles and 15th in the 300-meter hurdles.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Peters was placed in first heat, fi-nishing seventh in 16.15 seconds. He needed to register a time that would have beaten 15.57 turned in by Higginsville Reid Echelmeier, who finished eighth, in order to qualify for the finals, essentially earning a me-dal at that point.
Dominic Ball of NJROTC had the best preliminary time at 14.67 seconds, winning the second heat. The winner of the first heat was Blake Alexander of Strafford in 15.11.
Peters had a 43.92 seconds in the second heat in the 300-meter hurdles. He would have needed to beat out Alexander's 41.64 (eighth place) in order to get to the final.
Nick Jeffries of Lamar had the best preliminary time, winning the first heat in 39.78 seconds. Stephen Hedlund of Chris-tian won the second heat in 40.12 seconds.
Ball won the 110-meter hurdle final in 14.89 seconds. Hed-lund won the 300-meter hurdles final in 39.15 seconds. Both of the finals were Saturday.
