Arthur 'Gene' Leist

Arthur "Gene" Leist, 90, of Higginsville and formerly of Waverly, died May 17, 2012, at Meyer Care Center at Higginsville. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Waverly. Burial with military rites was in Waverly Cemetery.

Mr. Leist was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Carroll County. He was the son of Arthur and Leona Bell Chapman Leist. He married Frances Fiene on Feb. 20, 1946. He was a 1940 graduate of Waverly High School. He worked for J.B. Wheeler Service Station from his grade school years until he retired -- a span of nearly 60 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, stationed in Italy. He was a member of Immanuel church and Higgins-ville American Legion Post 223.

Mr. Leist is survived by his wife; a son, James Eugene Leist; and a sister, Wilma Robinson of Carrollton.

Mr. Leist was also a brother-in-law of Chester Fiene of Concordia.

The pallbearers were John Fiene, Stanley Fiene, Ronald Fiene, Randall Fiene, Michael Fiene and Dylan Woodall.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church building fund.
