Gerhard Henry Schulze
Gerhard Henry Schulze, 88, of Independence, died June 1, 2012, at his home. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Messiah Lutheran Church at Independence. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery at Concordia.
Mr. Schulze was born Nov. 23, 1923 at Concordia. He was the son of Frederick Wilhelm and Martha Voigt Schulze. He married Irene Kalthoff on June 16, 1946. He graduated from Concordia High School in 1941 and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WWII and was in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944-45. After the war, he worked at Gas Service Company and later Missouri Gas Energy from 1946 until retiring as a foreman in 1986. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school. He was a member of the VFW and the 99th Infantry Division Veterans of World War II.
Mr. Schulze is survived by two sons, Paul Schulze of Independence and Philip Schulze of Peculiar; three daughters, Mrs. Fritz (Carla) Seippel of Blue Springs, Carol Schulze of Derby, Kan., and Ruth Schulze of Independence; three brothers, Hans G. Schulze of Independence, Jim Schulze of Kansas City and Mark Schulze of Concordia; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the church.
