With the summer break coming to a close for kindergartners through seniors in high school, that means it is time for the fall sports teams to begin practicing. The day they can all start is Monday.
Concordia has a new face at the helm of its football program. Gone to Knob Noster after six of the most successful years in school history, including two straight Class 1 semifinal ap-pearances, is John Cox. In steps Tom Gramates to be the head coach of the Orioles.
Gramates plans on conducting two practices a day for the first week. The first practice will be from 6 to 9 a.m. The second will be from 3 to 6 p.m.
Larry Laubenstein returns for his 39th year as head coach at Saint Paul.
The Saints players will arrive and check out equipment Sun-day. The opening workout will be running at 6:30 a.m. Monday. The first practice will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A light position practice will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The afternoon practice will be from 3:30 to 5. A special-teams' practice will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
That same schedule will be followed each day.
Andy Frerking is entering his sixth year as head coach at Santa Fe.
Frerking said the Chiefs will have two practices during the morning hours with a break in between. However, he hasn't nailed down the specific times.
Entering his second season as head coach of the Sweet Springs Greyhounds is Melvin Baker.
His Greyhounds will follow a schedule of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday and 3:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday next week.
Leading the Concordia Lady Orioles into battle for a fifth straight season will be Leslie Ba-sye.
Her team will be practicing from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. But with the floor of Artie Elwell Gymnasium currently being re-paired, she wasn't sure the Lady Orioles will be able to get to use it the first day.
Aaron Marsh is back for a third season as Saint Paul Lady Saints head coach. He has led the Lady Saints to the Class 2 Final Four each of his first two seasons.
The Lady Saints will have practices from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday next week.
Kinsey Harms returns for her second season as head coach of the Santa Fe Lady Chiefs.
Her team will be getting in workouts from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Thursday's lone practice will be from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Back for her ninth season leading the Sweet Springs Lady Greyhounds is Kristen Niemeyer.
The Lady Greyhounds will be holding practices from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The times for the rest of the workouts the first week are still up in the air.
All of the practice times are subject to change due to weather considerations and other factors.
