Lions shut out Sweet Springs
The Concordia Lions Senior Division Little League football team scored 15 first-half points and made them stand up in a 15-0 shutout win over Sweet Springs Saturday at Wellington.
The Lions rushed for 100 yards in 17 attempts, including 47 yards in seven tries by Tanner Begemann.
Lane Mueller rushed for 32 yards, including a 20-yard run for a touchdown, in four carries, Brayden McGinnis 11 yards in four and Carter Singleton 10 yards in two, including an eight-yard scoring run.
The Orioles also scored a point on a conversion run by Begemann and a safety on a Sweet Springs mistake.
Tad Deatherage had one catch for three yards and Turner Yount one for two.
Begemann led the defense with seven tackles. Cameron Kelly had six tackles, McGinnis, Dakota Boehmer and Deather-age five each, Peyton Moore and Cameron Meyers four each, Payton Kanoy three, Josiah Kunkel, Yount, Tyler Marlin, Simon Looney and Colton DePee two each and Singleton and Braxton McGinnis one each. Yount also recovered an onside kick.
The Lions, 2-1, play Lexington Red Saturday at noon at Lexington.
