Chamber members prep for annual meeting
With its annual meeting approaching, the Concordia Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up not only for future activities, but also the election of new board members.
During their annual meeting Thursday, July 25, active members will vote for next year's board of directors. Nominees are Larry Schnakenberg, Dan Janik, Cindy Tolias, Mary Beth Scherer and Gloria Burrow. Outgoing members of the board are Julie Bonar and acting president Marsha Trautman. The seat previously filled by Shelly Arth is also open. There are nine seats on the chamber's board of directors.
"Our whole purpose is for the benefit of our businesses in Concordia," Trautman said. "I think we have been very proactive."
The most recent chamber accomplishment is the updating of an Interstate 70 billboard, seen by westbound traffic approximately one mile from the Concordia exit. Spearheading the project was a result of a member bringing the idea to the board's attention, Trautman said.
"The board was ... very quick to act," she said. "That's another benefit of being a chamber member. If your group has something to advertise on that billboard ... we have a space for a banner."
Chamber officials expect the new design to be installed within the next week. Other projects the group is working on are the creation of a Concordia GIS map and a printed paper map, new window clings for member businesses, establishing a social media network through Facebook, and the refurbishment of Christmas decorations, among others. It's also hosting a circus this September and organizing the Piccadilly Auction in conjunction with Concordia Main Street Inc.
The annual luncheon Thursday will be held at noon in Room 203 of Concordia Community Center.
