Sweet Springs man seriously injured in crash

A Sweet Springs man was involved in a serious crash Saturday, Sept. 7, on U.S. Highway 65, 0.6 miles north of Missouri Route AA.

The accident occurred at 11:48 p.m. when Steven Harms, 49, driving a 2000 Ford F150, traveled off the right side of the roadway in the northbound lane. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, he overcorrected, causing his vehicle to return to the roadway and travel off the left side of the roadway into the ditch where it impacted and overturned. Harms was ejected from the vehicle. His vehicle came to rest after hitting a fence. He was not wearing a safety device.

Harms was transported to University Hospital, in Columbia, via Staff for Life for treatment.

In addition to MSHP, the Benton County Sheriffs Department responded to the scene.
