'Main Street' to host display contest

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Concordia Main Street Inc. will host a Christmas storefront display contest from Nov. 30 through the holiday season. The theme for the contest will be "A Concordia Musical Christmas." Businesses along Main Street and adjacent streets should pick a carol or a medley of carols and match their displays to those carols. For example, a "Jingle Bells"-themed display would have elements that relate to the carol, such as bells or miniature sleighs.

In order to be eligible for judging, the displays must be registered by Dec. 4. Judging will take place on either Dec. 5 or 6. The judges will assess the displays based on creativity, adherence to the theme and overall excellence. The winning display will receive the Concordia Main Street Crystal Leaf Award -- a traveling trophy. Concordia Main Street would like to see as many businesses as possible participate, organizers said. While it's encouraged to have the displays in or near the storefront, displays inside businesses will also be eligible for judging. To register a display or to learn more, call Pat McGinnis at 660-238-5018 or Nathan St. Clair at 816-565-1240.
