Helen Louise Schwarzer, 94, of Higginsville, died Dec. 13, 2013, at Golden Living Center-New Haven at Odessa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church at Higginsville with Dr. Greg Fine officiating and the Rev. Dale Felder and the Rev. Wilbur Conway assisting. Burial will be in Higginsville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday at Hoefer Funeral Home in Higginsville.

Mrs. Schwarzer was born Nov. 8, 1919, at Concordia. She was the daughter of Henry and Florence E. Lampe Schroeder. She married Francis "Frank" Schwarzer on June 30, 1942. She lived most of her life in Higginsville. She was a 1937 graduate of Higginsville High School. She worked as unit director at the Higginsville Habilitation Center for 45 years, retiring in 2006. She was the oldest active registered nurse in the state of Missouri, be-ing licensed for 73 years. She was a member of Higginsville American Legion Post 223 Auxiliary, Higginsville Civic Club, Chamber of Commerce and Higginsville Habilitation Center Parent's Association.

Mrs. Schwarzer if survived by two sons, Frank Schwarzer of New York City, N.Y., and George Schwarzer of Higginsville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 17, 1985.

The pallbearers will be Gerald Brubeck, Alan Falls, David Holtcamp, Richard Payne, David Pollard and Mike Silkwood. The honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Brennan, Michael Doss, Alexander Schwarzer, Samuel Doss, Timothy Doss, Wilburn Woods, Bonnie Fischer, Mary Fischer, Annerose Woods, Blanche Knipmeyer, Sherry Kilpatrick and Karla Neal.
