Election filing opens

Candidacy filing in the city of Concordia opened at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17. Filing is open until 4:30 p.m. each day. The final day to file is Jan. 21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Positions up for election are Mayor of the city of Concordia, Collector of the city of Concordia, Alderman Ward I and Alderman Ward II.

To qualify as an alderman, candidates must have reached their 21st birthday by election date -- April 8, 2014 -- they must be a U.S. citizen, and a resident of the city for a year preceding the election date. Candidates must also live within the ward for which they would serve if elected, among other qualifications.

Mayoral candidates must be 25 years old by election date.

To qualify as collector, candidates must be voters under the laws and Constitution of the state and city, candidates must reside in the city and must not owe taxes or municipal user fees to the city by the filing closing date.
