District softball tournaments start Monday
For the first time in the Missouri State High School Activities Association's history, spring softball teams will be competing for a state championship starting Monday.
The 78 schools (all classes) which chose to compete in the spring are broken up into 16 districts.
The seven I-70 Conference schools have been placed in three different districts.
The Concordia Lady Orioles and the Saint Paul Lady Saints are competing in the five-team District 16 event at Wellington.
Fourth-seeded Concordia tangles with South Holt in the only first-round game Monday at 5:30 p.m.
The winner of that contest gets top-seeded Santa Fe in the semifinal round Tuesday at 5 p.m. The other semifinal will pit the No. 2-seeded Wellington Lady Tigers versus third-seeded Saint Paul Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The championship game is April 30 at 6 p.m.
Sweet Springs has garnered the top seed in the five-team District 14 event at La Monte.
Fourth-seeded Northwest takes on the fifth-seeded Sacred Heart Lady Gremlins in the lone first-round game Monday at 5 p.m.
The Lady Greyhounds take on the winner of the Northwest/Sacred Heart game in the semifinal round Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The other semifinal game has second-seeded Crest Ridge taking on the host and No. 3-seeded Lady Vikings Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
The championship game is April 30 at 5 p.m.
The Lone Jack Lady Mules have earned the No. 1 seed in the four-team District 15 tournament at Lone Jack next week.
No. 4-seeded Hume will be the Lady Mules' first-round opponent Monday at 5 p.m.
The other semifinal pits the second-seeded Drexel Lady Bobcats against No. 3-seeded Rich Hill Monday. It's also scheduled for 5 p.m., according to the bracket.
The title game is set for April 30 at 5 p.m.
The sectional round of the state playoffs is set for May 5 at the winners of the even-numbered districts.
