Committee to decorate veterans' graves for Memorial Day

Thursday, May 15, 2014

The Concordia Veterans Committee, composed of members from American Legion Post No. 258 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5649, will place American flags at the graves of veterans Wednesday, May 21.

The decoration is in observance of Memorial Day and will take place at the following locations: St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, in Concordia, Concordia United Methodist Cemetery, Bethel United Church of Christ Cemetery and Concordia Baptist Cemetery, south of Concordia, Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, at Emma, St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery, two miles west of Emma, St. Peter's Memorial Cemetery in the Flora area, and St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery, in Ernestville.

Veterans placing the flags rely on a VA plaque for identification. Families with loved ones buried without VA plaques may notify LaVern Meyer at 660-463-2478 with information such as the veteran's name, cemetery and approximate location of the grave.

The committee will attempt to find the grave and place a flag. Flags will be picked up Wednesday, May 28.
