2 arrested after burglary near Odessa
At about 1:40 p.m. Thursday, March 12, Lafayette County Sheriff deputies responded to the area of Highway WW and North Outer Road outside of Odessa for a report of a suspicious vehicle. A neighbor called in the report after seeing the vehicle at a home in the area. Shortly after, Lafayette County dispatch received a call from an alarm company that an intrusion alarm was sounding at the same residence.
The neighbor described the vehicle, which had headed west on the outer road. Deputies discovered a residence was broken into, and the white car described by the neighbor stuck in the mud at the end of the dead-end outer road.
Odessa Police Department assisted deputies and received information about two males who were seen running south across Interstate 70 toward Old 40 Highway. After a search of the area, an Odessa officer found Matthew R. Stone, 26, of Kansas City, under the bridge on Old 40 at Sni Creek. He was taken into custody.
Deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol continued the search for the other suspect. A short time later, a clerk at the Valero Convenience Store, in Bates City, called to state a male matching the description of the other suspect was in the store. Deputies entered the store and arrested Henry L. Hood, 42, of Kansas City.
Stone and Hood were both charged with second-degree burglary, along with a $15,000 and $25,000 bond, respectively. Hood and Stone remain in custody.
Note: The charge for which the above individuals were arrested is mere accusation and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the above charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
