Chiefs finish second at Knob Noster
After beating No. 5-seeded Sherwood 5-2 in the first round, the fourth-seeded Santa Fe Chiefs pulled off an 8-5 win over top-seeded and host Knob Noster before falling 8-6 to Lee's Summit Christian in the championship game on Saturday.
In the title clash, the Chiefs never led and once were behind 6-0.
Summit Christian grabbed a 1-0 lead after one inning and added five tallies in the second frame.
The Chiefs answered Summit Christian's single run in the third inning.
Santa Fe trailed 7-3 after five frames and pulled within 7-6 heading to the seventh.
The Chiefs finished with seven hits, including two singles--one a two-run fifth-inning base hit-- from Holden Bargfrede. Ben Hinz had two singles and a double and scored two runs.
Other runs were scored by Andrew Smith, Wyatt Wilkinson, Truman Sleeper and Dobber Burton.
Hinz started on the hill, going five frames. Holden Bargfrede came on to turn the final two frames.
Hinz, the losing pitcher, recorded one strikeout and Bargfrede three.

In the semifinal round, the Chiefs never trailed.
Santa Fe led 1-0 after one inning, 4-0 through two frames, 4-2 following the third, 6-3 after four. And after Knob Noster pulled within 6-5 with two runs in the home half of the fifth, the Chiefs responded with single runs in the sixth and seventh frames.
Wilkinson singled and doubled, but he scored runs after each of the three walks he coaxed. Smith had a double but the time he scored was after he drew a free pass.
Hinz also scored after walking in the seventh. Holden Bargfrede and Ben Reeders each walked and scored in the second inning. Ryan Cox, however, hit his way on base and scored in the fourth inning.
The Chiefs are 2-4.
