Air ambulance takes Concordia woman to hospital

A 25-year-old Concordia resident was taken to the hospital by air ambulance Monday evening after her vehicle crashed on Route 23 north of Concordia Lake Road. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Samantha D. Phillips was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt south on Route 23 when she suffered a medical issue. The Cobalt went off the west side of the road and into a ditch where it hit a utility pole and overturned. Concordia Fire Protection District closed the roadway to traffic and Concordia Police Department assisted at the scene while Phillips was treated for injuries and transported by Life Flight Eagle helicopter to Centerpoint Medical Center, in Independence. According to the report, she was treated for moderate injuries and was not wearing her safety device The crash occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. (Sarah Reed/The Concordian)
