Allan A. Mahnken
Allan A. Mahnken, 91, lifelong Corder resident, died July 23, 2015, at Golden Living Center, at Odessa. Funeral services were held Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, at Corder. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mahnken was born July 25, 1923, at Corder. He was the son of William Henry and Verena Rodekohr Mahnken. He married Clara Irene Portell on Nov. 12, 1964. He was a 1941 graduate of Corder High School. He owned and operated Mahnken Farm Supply at Corder. He was a former mayor of Corder, serving for six years; an active member of the Corder Lions Club, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow award; a member of the Corder Picnic Association, serving as parade chairman for many years; and member of Zion church where he served several offices, including cemetery chairman for 18 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Mahnken is survived by two sons, Robert Portell, of Higginsville, and Donald Portell, of Plattsburg; two daughters, Carole Beard and Regina Flynn, of Corder; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 2, 1988; two sons, Danny Joe Portell and Kenneth Portell; three brothers, Lester Mahnken, Omar Mahnken and Marion Mahnken; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The pallbearers were Jeff Crawford, Mike Portell, Butch Portell, Keith Portell, Steven Beard and Jeff Todd. The honorary pallbearers were Vicky Rhodes, Treasa Stockwell, DeeAnn Ayers, Angie Walkenhorst, Lisa Garrison, Becky Portell and Lori Clements.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the church cemetery.
