Six first-teamers back in volleyball
Finishing 1-2 in the I-70 Conference volleyball Finishing 1-2 in the I-70 Conference volleyball standings for the second straight season, the Santa Fe Lady Chiefs and Saint Paul Lady Saints each earned three first-team berths in the all-conference voting in 2014. In the end, eight of the 18 selections were underclassmen.
The Lady Chiefs, 7-0 in league play and who finished third in Class 1 with a 33-4-1 overall mark, placed senior Lexi Smith and juniors Kylie Limback and Lauren Wiggins on the first-team list.
Earning spots on the first-team list for the Lady Saints, who were second in the league at 6-1 and finished third in Class 2 with a 34-6-2 overall mark, placed seniors Rebecca Roepe and Tiffany Bennett and sophomore Shannon Peters on the first-team list.
Third-place Concordia, which was 5-2 in the league and 28-6-1 overall, finished with two members on the first-team selection list-- juniors Ellison Brunkhorst and Cailey Cooper.
Wellington, which wound up fourth in the league standings at 4-3 and 18-9-1 overall, also had two players earn first-team status. Getting first-team nods were seniors Mikayla Lohsandt and Abby Thompson.
Orrick, which wound up fifth in the league standings at 3-4 and 9-15-3 overall, had senior Sam Fulte on the first-team list.
On the honorable-mention list were seniors, Brittany Reinwald, of Concordia, Kelsie Seaman, of Crest Ridge, and Olivia Loges and Megan Evans, of Sweet Springs.
Underclassmen -- both juniors last year -- on the list were Mallory Scherer, of Concordia and Savannah Lyons, of Lone Jack.
