Lightning causes explosive damage to tree

Wednesday, September 14, 2016
A tree in the front yard of 1409 S. Main St., in Concordia, was struck by lightning at approximately 4 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7. According to resident Krystal Yager, the tree was located directly outside her daughter's bedroom, and the sound of strike and explosion woke everyone in her neighborhood. Chunks of wood from the tree were strewn throughout the Yager's yard, along with neighboring yards. One piece was embedded vertically into the ground beneath the tree, according to Yager.
