I-70 boys stay home to start new hoops season

A new season of high school boys' basketball has tipped off, and area teams are getting the 2016-2017 campaign started with some stringent non-conference matchups.

The Concordia Orioles have begun a new year under head coach Brent Cooper with a pair of home games, playing Smithton this coming Monday and then hosting Holden the next night.

The Saint Paul Saints welcome the California Mustangs into Weis Gymnasium this Friday night and also host Lexington the Monday after Thanksgiving.

The Santa Fe Chiefs will wait until after Thanksgiving to get the new hoops season underway, hosting Tina-Avalon on Tuesday , Nov. 29.

The Sweet Springs Greyhounds will be the only I-70 Conference team to start the year on the road, visiting Otterville this Monday night.

One week later, the Wellington Tigers will begin the road to duplicating last year's third-place finish in the state when they host Lawson.

Crest Ridge welcomes in Sacred Heart this coming Tuesday to tip off 2016-2017, while Lone Jack hosts Drexel and Orrick takes on Polo this Monday to round out the I-70 schedule.
