Sally Kirchhoff, of Concordia, recently had the honor of being inducted into the "Holt County Music Hall of Fame." An induction ceremony and concert were held on the evening of Nov. 26 at the Historic City Hall in Forest City, one of the towns that comprise the consolidated school district in which she taught from 1984-2014 at South Holt R-1, located approximately 25 miles northwest of St. Joseph.

Early last year, a group of Holt County residents who have a deep appreciation for music of all genres got together and formed a Music Hall of Fame Committee recognizing the rich musical heritage that has existed within the county for many decades. It was their goal to host an event that would celebrate this notable history.

Kirchhoff was among ten individuals and one group who were inducted in this year's second annual event. She was recognized for her 30 years of service as K-12 Vocal Music Instructor at South Holt as well as her extensive musical contributions to the communities and churches of both the Forest City and Oregon, Missouri areas. During her tenure at South Holt, she was named by her administrators and recognized by the local Kiwanis Club as the "Outstanding Teacher of the Year" in 1993 and 2005. In addition, she was voted by her peers as the "Outstanding District Director of the Northwest Missouri Region" by the Missouri Choral Directors Association in 2010 as well as 2014.

Having retired from her career as a full-time public school teacher, Kirchhoff is now residing in the area where she grew up. She is a 1980 graduate of Santa Fe High School. In addition, she received her Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Music Education with Piano Emphasis in 1984 and her Master's of Music Degree in Piano Performance in 1991, both from the University of Central Missouri.

She currently holds part-time employment as a piano accompanist for the choral music departments of Excelsior Springs Middle School, Odessa High School, and serves as a pianist at St. John United Church of Christ in Emma.
