Saint Paul's Lutheran School brings home special tournament honor
At the Lutheran Sports Association of Missouri basketball tournament held Feb. 24-26 in Jefferson City, the Saint Paul's Lutheran School seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball team brought home an award to be shared with the entire SPLS community.
The team, coached by Jim Mills, Andrea Kueck and Galen Kueck, placed eighth in the statewide tournament, and was also awarded the Sportsmanship Award for the positive spirit, fairness and good citizenship shown by not only the team, but by fans, school staff and parents, as well. The award is voted on by the LSAM board and the officiating crews of the tournament.
LSAM is a non-profit organization that has been sponsoring annual Christian-based sports competitions for Missouri Lutheran schools since 1999, with the first basketball tournament held in 2000. LSAM has built a series of competitions based on the principle that all talent is a gift from God, and we should use those talents to the absolute best of our ability.
LSAM currently sponsors an annual state volleyball tournament, established in 2001, in the fall for girls and the state basketball tournament, established in 2000, held in the winter for both boys and girls. The state track meet, established in 2003, is held each spring. In 2009, LSAM added the state academic competition to the annual schedule, pitting schools against one another in friendly academic competition. In the fall of 2013 a State Cross Country meet was also added to the list of events that LSAM sponsors.
