Merilyn Ruth Mahnken
Merilyn Ruth Mahnken, 89, of Concordia, died Friday, March 3, 2017, at The Lutheran Nursing Home in Concordia.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Concordia, with the Rev. Harold Block officiating. Burial was in St. Paulís Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paulís Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Good Shepherd Home in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Concordia. Born June 21, 1927, in rural Emma, Merilyn was the daughter of the late Ben Lange and Bertha Brunkhorst Lange. She was a 1945 graduate and valedictorian of Sweet Springs High School and a graduate of St. Johnís College in Winfield, Kan. On May 22, 1955, at St. Paulís Lutheran Church, she married Lester Edward Mahnken, who preceded her in death on May 17, 2016. She worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co. from 1947 to 1949, Emma Creamery until 1957, and Mahnken & Fuchs Service Station part-time until 1989. She was a member of St. Paulís Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid No. 1, St. Paulís Quilters, Lutheran Braille Workers, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Lutheran Good Shepherd Home Auxiliary. She also volunteered in the Concordia community.
Survivors include one son, Randall L. Mahnken of Concordia; one granddaughter, Julie Gray and husband Michael of Ohatchee, Ala.; three great-grandchildren, Colton, Mikayla and Timothy (TBone) Gray; one brother, Robert Lange and wife Marlene of Concordia; one sister-in-law, Luella Lange of Concordia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Merilyn was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Lange.
Pallbearers were Dennis Petty, Kent Petty, Trent Koch, Carl Mahnken, David Pittaway and John Mahnken.
