Britt’s slugs way to unbeaten start for Majors and Minors
Britt’s Central Drug started the 2017 Little League baseball season undefeated in both the Minor and Major divisions with early games in the month of May.
Britt’s Majors won three games in a span of six days, knocking off American Family Insurance (Higginsville) 13-1 on Tuesday, May 2; beating Carrollton Lions’ Club 12-2 on Thursday, May 4; and defeating JS Construction (Carrollton) 11-1 on Sunday, May 7.
Jimmy Workman paced the lineup with a dazzling week at the plate, collecting five hits in eight at-bats, including two home runs, a double and a triple, while scoring seven runs and driving in six. Rylie Inman scored five runs during the win streak, and Ryder Abney had three runs batted in.
Kaleb Virus started and won all three games for Britt’s, pitching 9 1/3 innings and only giving up three runs while striking out 18.
The Minors squad won its first two games, getting past Salt Fork YMCA (Marshall) 11-5 on Wednesday, May 10, after edging Sweet Springs in a slugfest 16-12 on Monday, May 8.
Laine Hass had two doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs to lead the offense. Gus Sayne started both wins, striking out 11 in four innings pitched.
