Concordia Frau Lions reel off pair of softball victories
The Concordia Frau Lions earned a pair of victories to start the 2017 Little League softball season, knocking off Higginsville 11-eight on Tuesday, May 2, before pounding Carrollton 15-3 on Tuesday, May 16.
Izabel Koonce had to grind but eventually found a way to shut down Higginsville in game one. Trailing by two runs, Koonce struck out the side to work around loading the bases, setting a five-run fifth inning that led to the win.
Koonce ended up tallying 14 strikeouts while also walking nine. Karli Neal led the offense with three runs scored, while Koonce added two runs batted in and Chloe Fachmeier was best on the team with two hits.
Koonce also pitched and went the distance against Carrollton, collecting nine punchouts and only surrendering one hit.
Neal and Kynleigh Abney had three runs scored each. Brooklyn Garrison came up with two hits, including a double, while Abney and Koonce each also picked up two knocks.
