Body found in Missouri River near Waverly identified

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department reported a body found in the Missouri River Monday, July 3, has been identified as Matthew Johnson, 26, of Kansas City, Kan.

Sheriff William Jewell McCoy states there were no signs of foul play and all information collected in the local investigation has been forwarded to the police department of Kansas City, Kan.

At approximately 8:35 p.m. July 3, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was reportedly notified of the floating body. According to McCoy, the body was found in the river east of the 65 Highway bridge at Waverly on the Carroll County side.

KMZU reported that Sheriff McCoy and deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area with assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and, with use of a Water Patrol boat, were able to pull the body out of the Missouri River.
