LaCoMo East softball juniors fall at state tourney

Wednesday, July 26, 2017

After winning a district title, the LaCoMo East Juniors softball all-stars were not able to string together the runs needed to hang around at the state Little League championships, suffering a 6-2 loss to Daniel Boone (Columbia) on Saturday, July 15 that ended their postseason run.

Daniel Boone raced out to a 4-0 lead after three innings and never looked back. LaCoMo did slice the deficit down to three runs heading into the final inning, but they yielded one more run and couldn’t put a rally together in the bottom of the sixth.

Addison Roepe and Rinley Hulver each had base hits for LaCoMo. Roepe pitched all six innings, allowing four and five walks while striking out nine.

The first loss of the state tourney came the day before in an 11-0 shutout at the hands of Joplin that ended after three innings via the 10-run rule.

LaCoMo East brought home its district championship by knocking off LaCoMo Central 10-0 back on Tuesday, July 11. East scored four runs in the third to start the scoring and never slowed down, ending the game early after five innings.

Emily Wilkens powered the lineup with two hits, three runs scored and three runs batted in. Roepe and Abby Jones had one hit each and combined to score three times.

Olivia Hemme was the starting and winning pitcher, allowing just two hits and five walks against 15 strikeouts over all 5 innings.
