Four injured in Lafayette County accident on Thursday

A Lexington man sustained serious injuries as the result of an accident involving a towed vehicle on Thursday, Aug. 3, in Lafayette County. The accident happened just after 3:20 p.m. on Route Z, north of Mountain View Road.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol report states that four individuals reportedly were attempting to reattach a towed unit to an International Freightliner that had become unhitched. The crash occurred as another unoccupied freightliner rolled down the hill toward the pedestrians and struck the towed unit of the first freightliner, and reportedly pushed it into the pedestrians.

Taylor Atkinson, 20, of Lexington, reportedly sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Independence for treatment. Tyler Barton, 23, of Corder, Harrison Burns, 34, of Lexington, and David Thomas, 50, of Lexington, each refused treatment of unspecified injuries at the scene.
