Concordia clobbers Lone Jack in homecoming game
On Friday, Sept. 29, the Concordia High School Fighting Orioles football team played host to the Lone Jack High School Mules in the Oriolesí annual homecoming game. The Orioles put the celebratory distractions aside and took care of business to the tune of a 51-21 drubbing.
The O's seemed to have no problem moving the ball in this one. Speedy sophomore split-end Colby Stein stole the show, racking up a combined 165 yards and three touchdowns (45 rushing yards and a touchdown on only two attempts, seven receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns). His rushes went for 27 yards and 18 yards, while he averaged 17.1 yards a catch and had a spectacular 56-yard touchdown play.
Junior fullback Cameron Kelly also racked up the yards, picking up 121 yards and three touchdowns on 17 rushing attempts.
Senior quarterback Cameron Cooper put on a heck of a show as well. The dual threat quarterback only picked up 41 yards on 12 carries, but he posted his best game of the season throwing the pigskin. He picked up 176 yards and three touchdowns while completing 12 of 16 attempts. He ended with a 172.9 passer rating.
Aside from Steinís two catches for touchdowns, freshman split-end Austin Droege also took one of his two receptions from Cooper to the house as part of his 23 yards, while junior halfback Lane Mueller had an 18-yard completion as part of his two-catch, 28-yard game.
Defensively, senior linebacker Kade Meinaka had seven total tackles (six solo) and two sacks, while senior defensive back Alex Collier had seven total tackles (six solo) while also snagging an interception.
The win moves Concordia to 2-5 on the season (2-4 in conference) while Lone Jack falls to 1-6 (1-5 in conference).
The Fighting Orioles will see action again in their Senior Night game on Oct. 6, when a talented Crest Ridge High School team comes to Concordia hoping to keep their undefeated record intact. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
