The Concordia Area Chamber of Commerce has named Mary Vogt as the new chamber director. Chamber president Patty Schnakenberg said Vogt was the right fit for the position.

“Mary is creative and forward thinking, is willing to get the job done, and has a deep love and appreciation for Concordia,” Schnakenberg said. “Mary understands what is important to small-town business. With her direction and a reorganization we are hoping to better serve our members.”

Vogt was raised in Concordia and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Concordia High School and Saint Paul’s Lutheran College. She holds an associate’s degree in education and is a certified activity director. She recently received a certificate of graduation from the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Missouri for attending its Chamber Management Academy. She was married to the late Russell Vogt in 1968.

“After our marriage, we moved numerous times due to Russell’s job,” she said. “My three daughters and I returned to Concordia after my husband was killed by a drunk driver in 1978.”

Vogt has since worked as a cook and coordinator for District 3 Area Agency on Aging in Concordia and Lexington, as a cook at Saint Paul Lutheran High School, an activity director at Mar-Saline Manor in Marshall and Sweet Springs Villa in Sweet Springs, and as a cook at Westport Estates in Marshall.

“Now I enjoy assisting Randy Hink of Plowboy’s BBQ in Marshall with special events,” she said. “I also run a home business, Tastefully Simple, and enjoy collecting cookbooks, teacups and teapots, and Thomas Kincade books and pictures.”

Vogt is a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Good Shepherd Care Community Auxiliary, the Concordia Senior Center Services Board, and the Concordia Piccadilly Committee. She also is a lifetime member of Beta-Psi Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Before accepting the director’s position, she served on the Concordia Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors.

“My goal is to help our chamber members in a way that will help promote their businesses through advertising and marketing,” she said.

New hours for the chamber office are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, contact Mary Vogt at 660-463-2454, or at concordiachamber@centurytel.net.
