Jerry Reid Agency Chamber Business of the Month for October
The Concordia Area Chamber of Commerce has chosen the American Family Insurance—Jerry Reid Agency as its October 2017 Business of the Month. The Concordia branch of the agency hosted a ribbon cutting on Oct. 4, with members of the chamber present. Chamber director Mary Vogt said the agency is a good addition to the community.
“We are glad to have Jerry and his agency join us as chamber members,” Vogt said. “We want to welcome him not only to the chamber, but to the Concordia community as well.”
Jerry “JR” Reid has been in the insurance business since 1983 when he opened his first office in Marshall. From there, he moved his agency to Sweet Springs in 1987 and opened a second location in Sedalia in 1997. Reid said his first priority has always been to focus on customer service.
“Our first priority is to provide our clients with the personal and excellent customer service they deserve,” he said.
Reid said the process of adding another location to his agency started about a year ago when Concordia American Family agent Norman Brunkhorst talked to him about Brunkhorst preparing to make a career change and about the possibility of maintaining an American Family presence in Concordia.
“I worked had at least three sessions with the American Family corporate folks talking about the need to keep a location open in Concordia,” Reid said. “I presented a business and sales plan. Part of that plan was to remind them how much of a strong presence American Family had kept in the community for so many year. Norman and his agency have been a real pillar in this community. And our family already had a lot of business connections and relationships in the community from days past when I use to sell farm equipment in the area and from my refereeing area sports. I am sure that helped in making the final decision.”
In April of this year, American Family announced that Reid would in fact be able to add the Concordia location to his agency, thus keeping the company’s local presence intact. Reid worked closely with Brunkhorst and was able to continue the lease on the same building that American Family had been in for close to 20 years, which is something Reid felt would help with continuity during the change in agents.
“My wife Tina and I wanted to keep everything as close as possible to the way it was,” he said. “Norman had always been a big supporter of the Concordia community, and real pillar of the community. We want to continue that as well.”
The staff in the local office include Reid, his wife Tina, who serves as the agency operations manager, sales specialist Katie Hogan and sales specialist Stephanie Luetjen.
“We were happy to be able to hire local people for the office in Concordia,” Reid said. “And we are very thankful for the assistance we received from Norman and his office staff Cathy (Jobe) and Darlene (Meyer). They really made the transition as smooth as it could be.”
The American Family Insurance-Jerry Reid Agency office is located at 106 S. Main in Concordia and can be contacted by calling 660-463-7984. “We just want to say ‘thank you’ to the City of Concordia and the people of the community for their support and generosity in welcoming us to town,” Reid said. “We look forward to being a part of the community in whatever way we can.”
