Marie Louise Rehkop, 94, of Concordia, Missouri, entered her Heavenly home on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at The Lutheran Good Shepherd Home in Concordia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Concordia, with the Rev. Paul Mehl officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Concordia. Burial will be in St. Paulís Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers are Les Wolpers, Dennis Dohrman, Bruce Hass and Mike Flandermeyer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Paulís Lutheran Church or Lutheran Hour Ministries. Marie was born on Jan. 5, 1924, in Concordia, the daughter of the late Louis Schumacher and Eleanore Schnakenberg Schumacher. She was baptized by the Rev. Francis Brust and confirmed at St. Paulís Lutheran Church by the Rev. O.E. Heilman. In 1938, she graduated from St. Paulís Lutheran Grade School.
Marie was very active in her church. She was a member and officer in the Walther League, a member of the youth choir, Senior Choir, 1912 Ladies Aid, Altar Guild, a Sunday school teacher and a volunteer Braille worker.
Marieís parents owned Fruit & Produce Grocery Store Company in Concordia where she worked many hours during her youth and teenage years. She was a 1942 graduate of Concordia High School. Following graduation, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Holsten Motor Company. Several years later, she became an employee at the Concordia Post Office and served there for 10 years. Later she managed the offices for Rose-A-Linda Turkey Corporation.
Marie served the community in many capacities including board member and treasurer of St. Paulís College Guild, member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 258, charter and life member of V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 5649, member and treasurer of Concordia Library Board, volunteer Red Cross worker at The Lutheran Good Shepherd Home, and a Cub Scout den mother.
On June 6, 1946, she married Vernon G. Rehkop, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in Europe during World War II. Following their marriage at St. Paulís Lutheran Church, they co-owned and operated Fruit & Produce Grocery Company with her brother, Robert Schumacher. Vernon preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1996.
Marie is survived by one son, Tom Rehkop and wife Janet of Chesterfield; one daughter, Barbara Peuster and husband James of Concordia; four grandchildren, Andrew Rehkop, Rebecca Rehkop, Julia Peuster and Joanna Peuster; three great-grandchildren, Eli, Silas and Phoebe Rehkop; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by one sister, Vera Boehne, and one brother, Robert Schumacher.
