Concordia family to be focus of RFD-TV television show
A local family and their collection of John Deere tractors will soon be the focus of an “Out and About with Machinery Pete” television segment on the RFD-TV network. The production crew visited the collection of Richard Cordes and his son Kevin on Tuesday, Feb. 6, to obtain footage and information about the collection.
“We have six John Deere ‘G’ tractors in our collection,” Richard Cordes said. “These include a G-N, a G-W, and a G-M, which was made during the World War II era. My sister also has a 1929 John Deer ‘D’ model with steel wheels. We are going to see if we can get it up here from Carthage so it can be part of the show as well.”
The John Deere corporation is celebrating 100 years of manufacturing this year, Cordes said, and the area’s Ag Power dealerships are very involved in promoting the anniversary. One of Cordes’ tractors, a 1952 John Deere “G”, is currently being housed at Ag Power in Higginsville as part of the celebration.
“My son Kevin and I intend to make preserving these tractors into a four-generation concern,” he said. “Myself, my son, his son, and his grandson will all be involved. Preserving the heritage of these machines is more than just letting them sit. We’ll be driving them and using them, we may even drive them in parades. You just don’t leave them sitting out in the rain or along a fence row.”
