Area organizations announce special reading event
The Concordia Missouri Community Betterment and Second Saturdays announce a “Reading Circle Day.” The event will run from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10. Children ages 5-10 are invited to come and read for a short time. Refreshments of cookies, or maybe a doughnut, will be served. A local women’s book club has volunteered to be the listeners.
Funds for the Reading Circle Day are being provided by the Thrivent Action Team. Each reader will be given a hard cover book to take home, but only as long as supplies last. Books will be age appropriate and a Literacy Partnership facilitator will help choose the books to be distributed.
The sponsors are asking schools to help get the news out about this opportunity for each child participating to receive a free reading book.
Reading is a bridge that closes the gap on all students and their ability to learn. The Reading Circle Day will be a celebration around the theme of “The Importance of Reading.”
The location for the March 10 Reading Circle Day will be announced soon, so watch for an announcement in The Concordian and through school bulletins.
