Community Betterment and Second Saturdays to host Reading Circle Day
Concordia Community Betterment and Second Saturdays, sponsored by The Simple Life, will be hosting the Reading Circle Day at The Simple Life from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10.
Children ages pre-K through junior high may choose a book to read and then choose a book to take home with them that day. Children will be reading to adults who are volunteering their time for this educational experience. In addition, Jessy the Comfort Dog will be there for children to read to!
Why are we doing this event? Literacy is the foundation for success in school, work and life, and research shows that access to books at home is a key factor leading to academic achievement and future opportunities. With funding from Thrivent Financial, books are being purchased through a literacy partnership for the children.
It is our hope that parents, grandparents or family friends will bring a child to The Simple Life to read and get a new book to take home with them for their own personal library. We hope that his will help set the stage for success by placing the gift of literacy into the hands of the children in your community! We hope this will help families to build at-home libraries that provide opportunities for families to reinforce critical reading skills.
Reading Day in Missouri is always on the second Friday during the month of March.
