Marshall man’s body recovered from lake

The Saline County Sheriff’s Department and Saline County Coroner’s Office are investigating a drowning incident, which occurred at Blind Pony Lake near Sweet Springs during the evening of Thursday, May 4, according to a press release from the sheriff’s department.
Emergency services were dispatched to Blind Pony Lake at approximately 7:30 p.m. in reference to a male subject in the water who had submerged and not resurfaced.
Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Water Patrol Division later recovered the body of the male subject, identified as 22-year-old Raul Cortez of Marshall.
Missouri State Highway Patrol, Conservation Agent Chase Wright, Sweet Springs Ambulance and Police and West Central Fire from Sweet Springs assisted at the scene.
Preliminary autopsy results and the investigation have determined the cause to be accidental drowning. According to the sheriff's department, no foul play is suspected.
